Sapien is designed with privacy-first principles. We collect minimal data:

Local Data Only: All your data is stored locally on your device using UserDefaults. No account required.
Books Searched: Book titles you search for (sent to APIs for processing, not stored on our servers)
Generated Content: Your insights and "takes" are stored only on your device
Device Information: Device type, OS version, app version (for app functionality only)

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information solely to:

Provide AI-powered book insights and analysis
Generate personalized "takes" and shareable content
Create and maintain your Thinking Profile (stored locally)
Enable sharing to external platforms of your choice

Important: We do not collect analytics data, usage patterns, or send push notifications. Your activity remains private on your device.

4. AI Processing and Data Storage

Privacy-First Architecture: All your data is stored locally on your device. We do not operate servers to store your content.

When you request insights:

Book titles are sent to Google Books API and OpenAI's API
OpenAI processes this data with ZERO data retention policy
Generated insights are stored only on your device
No account association — completely anonymous
Data persists via UserDefaults (local device storage)

5. Data Sharing and Third Parties

Sapien uses the following third-party services:

Google Books API: For book metadata and information lookup
OpenAI: For AI processing of book insights (zero retention policy)
StoreKit 2: Native Apple framework for subscription management (on-device only)

No Data Sharing: We do not use Firebase, RevenueCat, or any analytics providers. Your data never leaves your device except for API calls to generate insights.

We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

6. Your Data Rights

As all data is stored locally on your device, you have complete control:

Access: All your data is visible within the app
Deletion: Delete the app to remove all data from your device
Export: Use iOS system features to export or backup your data
No Tracking: We do not track you across apps or websites

7. Data Security

Your security is built into our architecture:

Local Storage: Data never leaves your device for storage
TLS 1.3 encryption for API communications (OpenAI, Google Books)
No Servers: We do not operate cloud infrastructure that stores your data
No Employee Access: We cannot access your content — it stays on your device

8. Data Retention

Data retention is entirely under your control:

Local Data: Persists on your device until you delete the app
iCloud Backup: If enabled, data may be included in your device backup
No Server Retention: We do not retain any data on our servers
Complete Removal: Delete the app to remove all data immediately

9. Children's Privacy

Sapien is not intended for children under 13. The app does not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you have concerns about your child's use of the app, please contact us.

10. International Data Transfers

As data is stored locally on your device, international transfers are limited to API calls to OpenAI and Google Books. These services may process data in various regions with appropriate safeguards.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy in the app and updating the "Last Updated" date.
